Gombe Stream National Park
Famous for the research that Dr Jane Goodall has
done here, this park was formed to preserve the
small habitat that remains for the chimpanzees.
With the small habitat though, the chimpanzees
are relatively easy to be found. The park covers a
mere 52 sq km. It is heavily forested, making it
unsuitable for larger carnivores, therefore safe
for walking safaris. It is a great site for
birdwatchers as well as olive babboons, red tailed
monkeya snd red colobus monkeys. Getting to
Gombe Stream can be done most easily by small
airplane from Moshi or Arusha. Travel by roads
can range from tough to impossible during wet
season (February - June) and the trip is long
with travel times unpredictable. With this said,
though, this is an experience not to be missed.
